The Del Mar Village Association (DVMA) is an organization made up of Del Mar residents, business owners and property owners who are dedicated to working together to enhance the vitality of the Village while preserving the community’s historic character. Recently, the DMVA adopted the tenets of the Main Street program, which was established by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1979. The Main Street approach is built on the premise that preservation happens naturally if small towns are economically stable. A healthy, vibrant downtown reflects the image of the entire community and responsibility for this challenge resides within the entire community, not just downtown businesses. The DMVA produces popular community activities such as the Taste of Del Mar and Art Stroll, Summer Solstice, Holiday Wonderland and Halloween event and provides community services such valet parking and an Ombudsman. It has created a logo and identity for Del Mar which will be showcased on colorful banners and entrance signage. In addition to these efforts, the DMVA is sponsoring a Visitor and Community Guide to be distributed throughout San Diego and it also operates a summer information kiosk for visitors. Design efforts are underway as well in a number of areas. The DMVA has formed four key committees, each focusing on four crucial elements of the Main Street model. They are the Design Committee, the Economic Restructuring Committee, the Promotion Committee and the Organization Committee. Each committee will be chaired by a DMVA board member and all committees are looking for participation from interested Del Mar residents, business owners and property owners. |
