Del Mar – March 20, 2009 – Del Mar – While the lights and decorations have long been put away, the holiday spirit is still being felt in downtown Del Mar. Recently, Del Mar Hills Academy, Del Mar Heights Elementary School, and The Winston School each received a $1,000 contribution from the Del Mar Village Association (DMVA) as a result of the organization’s successful Holiday Wonderland event held last December.
Holiday Wonderland, hosted by the DMVA with support from the City of Del Mar, participating restaurants and generous sponsors is a day of festive holiday activities in the Village for both the young and young at heart. “While the donation is from the DMVA, it is truly is a contribution that has been made possible because of the many incredible event volunteers, including the students, their families, and staff from each of these three schools,” shared Jen Grove, executive director of the DMVA.
Holiday Wonderland 2008 chair Sara Harnly agrees. “The schools involvement is instrumental because it enables the kids, families, and school staff to see first hand the significant role they have with the event. It’s a reflection of our community working together with the benefits lasting far beyond that one day in December.”
With the recent contribution, The Winston School plans to purchase supplementary materials for their science classes particularly in the area of biology while Del Mar Hills Academy will fund an artist-in-residence program that will include lessons on recycling and students creating works of art from trash. Del Mar Heights plans to use the donation to support their music enrichment program with the purchase of a sound system for the school’s rock band.
The 2009 Holiday Wonderland event will take place throughout downtown Del Mar on Sunday, December 6th with plenty of arts and crafts activities, restaurant tastes, musical entertainment, horse and carriage rides, and a visit from Santa.
The DMVA is looking for event sponsors, vendors and volunteers. For more information please visit their website www.delmarmainstreet.com or contact the DMVA office via email info@delmarmainstreet.com or by phone at 858.755.1179.
